Gas Chromatography Cooling Centrifuge
Gas chromatography is used to estimate the various fatty acids in biological and food samples. These equipments are used for centrifugation of samples at low temperature. Extraction of DNA, RNA, Proteins etc. frequently require the use of cooling centrifuges.
HPTLC Spectrophotometer

A Camag high-pressure thin-layer chromatography system equipped with an automatic TLC sampler (Linomat 5), TLC scanner 3, and integrated software Win-Cats version 4.

Note on application of HPTLC

  • Qualitative and quantitative analysis of active compounds in medicinal plant/herbal/synthetic drugs
  • HPTLC fingerprint of extracts/fractions/formulations.
  • Preparative HPTLC for isolation of active constituent from extracts/herbal drugs.
  • Toxic/medicinally active food components present in food.
  • Pharmaceutical analysis of bulk drugs.
  • Pharmacokinetic studies.
Principle- Ultraviolet–visible spectroscopy or ultraviolet-visible spectrophotometry (UV Vis or UV/Vis) refers to absorption spectroscopy or reflectance spectroscopy in the ultraviolet-visible spectral region. The absorption or reflectance in the visible range directly affects the perceived color of the chemicals involved.

Make/Model- Perkin Elmer, Lambda 25

Specification/Features - Solid, Liquid, Paste and powder samples - Range: 190 nm - 1100 nm; Bandwidth: 0.5 nm - 4 nm (variable)

Applications- Qualitative and quantitative analysis of different analytes such as biological macromolecules, transition metal ions and highly conjugated organic compounds, determination of the functional groups within a molecule, etc

PCR System Gel Documentation

The Real time PCR system is used to monitor the amplification of targeted DNA molecules during PCR. It is used to study the expression of candidate genes in cells or tissues.

High-performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) is used to estimate the levels of vitamins, one-carbon metabolites and various amino acids.
Incubator Shaker Nano Drop

The equipment is essential to maintain the temperature and aeration (through shaking) for microbial culture growth. Bacterial culture and suspension cell cultures can be incubated in these equipments to provide optimum temperature and aeration for growth of the cultures.

The bio-photometer is used to estimate the purity and quantity of nucleic acids and protein quantity in very small volumes of 1-3ul. It can also be used for estimating bacterial growth and colorimetric protein assays.

Soxhlet Apparatus Digital Plethysmometer

Principle- A Soxhlet extractor is a piece of laboratory apparatus used when desired compound has a limited solubility in a solvent, and the impurity is insoluble in that solvent. Normally a solid material containing some of the desired compound is placed inside a thimble made from thick filter paper, which is loaded into the main chamber of the Soxhlet extractor. After extraction the solvent is removed, typically by means of a rotary evaporator, yielding the extracted compound. The non-soluble portion of the extracted solid remains in the thimble, and is usually discarded.

Applications- Preparation of plant extracts, etc

Principle- The Digital Plethysmometer is a micro controlled volume meter, specially designed for accurate measurement of the rat / mouse paw swelling. The water displacement produced by the immersion of the animal paw in the measuring tube is reflected in to the second tube, inducing the volume displacement. This displacement value is recorded.

Make/Model-Orchid Scientific, PLM Digital Plethysmometer

Applications- Evaluation of the inflammatory response experimentally induced in small rodents and to screen potential anti-inflammatory or anti-edema properties of pharmacological substance

Spectrophotometer BioTek Epoch

BioTek Epoch Micro-plate reader

Principle-BioTek Epoch Micro-plate reader is an instrument used for specific colorimetric assay done in 96-well microtitre plates. The instrument contains a set of optical filters that allow selective transmission of light of specific wave length through the samples and measures the relative transmittance with respect to the incident intensity. The fraction of light transmitted is related to the concentration of the molecules of interest in the medium. This system works in 96-well plate format generating data with high throughput. The instrument contains a separate data acquisition system and supports multiple data collection at different wavelengths.

Make / Model- BioTek Epoch Micro-plate reader

Specification/features- Monochromator-base UV-Vis wavelength selection, 200 nm to 999 nm wavelength range in 1 nm increments

Applications- ELISA, protein assays (Bradford, Lowry and Bicinchoninic acid assay), MTT assay, turbidity based bacterial growth kinetics study, wavelength scanning, etc.

Rotary Evaporator

Principle- A rotary evaporator is a device used in chemical laboratories for the efficient and gentle removal of solvents from samples by evaporation. It involves evaporation of solvent (single-stage or straight distillation) under vacuum. The evaporator consists of a heating bath with a rotating flask, in which the liquid is distributed as a thin film over the hot wall surfaces and can evaporate easily. The evaporation rate is regulated by the heating bath temperature, the size of flask, the pressure of distillation and the speed of rotation.

Make/Model-IKA RV 10 Basic

Applications- Concentration of plant extracts, etc.
